Information

When having a bet, it is always a wise to arm yourself with all of the relevant information about the horse track, and horses you wish to bet. Use tipsters like ourselves to see what they think about what is backable on the day. Being old school, I always use the Racing Post. This can be brought in the old fashioned paper version, for when you are at the races, or on-line for when you are at home or at work. If you don't understand all of how the form is written, there are explaination boxes within the form, on both versions to help explain the workings of the form to you.

Keeping in Control.

This is important. I find it best to think of horse racing as a hobby, for example, the same as fishing- Over the fishing season, you may well pay £1000, to pay for you rod, licences, fees and travel. This amount will last you for the season and you enjoy the sport of it. Horses racing is the similar, with just one exception- it is the only hobby that you may get your money back, and perhaps more! You wont win every day, and all of the time, but you will get fun and enjoyment as the season goes on. Don't chase your money, sometimes you get it back, but there will be that 'black day' where everything goes wrong. By doing this you will put yourself under pressure, and it will spoil your enjoyment. Spend only what you can afford.

Luck

Everyone needs a bit of luck, the more the merrier! Everybody needs a little bit for things to go your way, whether your horse just got up, or nearly falls, but stays on his hoofs.
